Update on MLK Gateway plans

The always well-written Portland Architecture blog, served up to us by Brian Libby, posted a story today about the Portland Development Commission’s plans for the MLK Gateway project, and the proposed MLK heritage markers. Included in the blog post are nice aerial shots of the Gateway blocks, and a mockup of the proposed sculpture by James Harrison. Libby urges corporations sited on MLK, as well as the city, to get creative in financing these ‘beautification’ projects.

More of Harrison’s proposed Gateway sculpture on his website, here.

Meanwhile, Jack Bog’s blog – where he often takes sharp aim at how Portland is run – has some words to say on the impending foreclosure on the Heritage Building, and the possibly wasted funds that the PDC put into it, in a blog post entitled “Even Giveaways Aren’t Enough on MLK.
