Third Angel’s contemporary composition series.

I want to give a shout out to Third Angle, a wonderful ensemble of musicians and support staff who have been performing contemporary classical compositions for twenty-five years now. I have a season ticket to their performances, and the first of this season’s series – pieces by Tan Dun, George Crumb, and local composer Tomas Svoboda – was a wonderful experience, filled with expansive use of the performance space (Lincoln Hall) to create something ‘more’ than just a music concert.

Watch a video clip of Third Angle musicians performing a couple of years ago (the clip is labeled Portland State U., but clearly is actually at The Old Church), or another clip of Third Angle musicians performing as accompanists to a dance performance at Keller Fountain downtown (really, the audio recording isn’t great, but it’s a fascinating place to hold a performance).

I’m excited about the rest of this season’s shows.

Third Angle’s offices are at 4839 NE MLK, Suite 204, above PACE Fitness.
